NORMAN ANDERSON reports Poynder Park

Kelso kindly accommodated Hillhead/Jordanhill by agreeing to a slightly earlier kick-off and also kindly conceded the normal bucketload of penalties.

But other than that it was a very good day at the office for the Tweedsiders.

Two early penalties by Kieran Wilkinson settled them and in the 18th minute they scored the first try when Ali Marsh was driven over.

The lead was increased when Kelso won turnover ball back in their 22. After good play by Kevin Utterson and Gregg Minto, the ball was moved out to the right and Donald Seed galloped over, with the hint of a dummy, from 30m.

Robson added another score and Wilkinson converted to take Kelso 25 points clear at the break.

After a few chances went begging for Kelso in the second half, the referee allowed a long advantage which let captain Richard Minto to score for bonus point try.

Hills grabbed a consolation when replacement Ali Wright went over, but Kelso had the last word as Gregg Minto gathered Mark Chester’s well-weighted chip to score.
