Sunday’s shoot at Braidwood saw some good scoring despite the wind with more than a third of the field on 75 per cent-plus.
The trophy round fell to regular visitor, Bobby Bruce (Broxburn) who shot an excellent 37 ex-40 to steal an outright win from Gordon Boertien (Lockerbie), the members’ Mowitt Trophy winner on 36. Stewart Cumming (Hopetoun) was only one behind while John Ross (Whitburn), Donald Livingston (Edinburgh) and Stuart Dawson (Bedlington) all shared the fourth highest score of 34.
The second layout was an even tighter affair – no less than four guns shared the top slot. Dawson should have had it in the bag, only one away as he took his place on the last stand, but he went on to drop four, carding 35. Ross, Bruce and Rab Neil (North Berwick) all matched his final score. Bobby Bruce was the undisputed aggregate winner having enjoyed two first places and an overall score of 72 ex 80. Ross, Dawson, Cumming and Boertien were closest, sitting just short of the 70 mark in joint runner-up slot on 69.
The next shoot is on Sunday when Struan Brodie (Denholm) has the opportunity to defend the Lingerwood Cup. Entries close at noon. All welcome.
