GALA WANDERERS have booked their place in the final of the Under-18s Youth League Cup after defeating local rivals Melrose Wasps by 35-21 in the penultimate round match at Netherdale on Saturday.
Wanderers will meet title holders Stirling County, who defeated Ayr, in the final.
Top scorer for Gala Wanderers, who had to fight back after trailing 3-13, was centre Keith Young, who kicked three penalty goals and three conversions for a 15-point tally. In all, Wanderers ran in four tries, two by back row Josh Irvine and one apiece from stand-off Ruairi Howarth and wing Ryan Shaw.
The Under-18 Youth League Bowl will be contested between Hamilton and Peebles Colts. Peebles, who won last year’s final, knocked out Glasgow Hawks in the semis, with a 20-14 home win.
At under-16 level, Currie have made it through to the Cup final while the other semi-final will be contested between Hawick Albion and Melrose on Wednesday (kick-off 7.30pm).
All finals will be played at Murrayfield on Tuesday, April 16.
Elsewhere in the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools competitions, Galashiels Academy (Under-18s Plate); Peebles High School (Under-18s Bowl); Jedburgh Grammar (Under-16s Plate); Selkirk High School (Under-16s Bowl); Langholm Girls (Under-15 Cup) are all involved in the final stages of their respective competitions.
