FOR the third successive year Leithen Rovers took possession of the Alec Lucas Memorial Trophy following a penalty shoot-out.
This year it was local side Tweeddale Rovers that forced a derby final, taking the scores to 3-3 at full-time, on a successful day at the end of which the real winner was charity.
Organisers believe that in excess of £10,000 was raised from the 2012 event, which will be distributed among various Royal Marine (RM) charities.
Sixteen teams competed for the trophy, including three RM teams from 45 Commando, Fleet Protection Group and the Corps Team, as well as an All Stars team including former Scotland international Stevie Crawford.
Alec was killed in action in Kajaki during Herrick 9 on November 24 2008, age 24.
This year marks the fourth memorial tournament and, thanks to all those who have contributed, the fund has raised nearly £60,000.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so by sending a cheque, made payable to The Alec Lucas Memorial Fund, to Carol Drummond at 20 Kingsmeadows Road, Peebles, EH45 9AS.
