BERWICK and District Motor Club and Border Ecosse Car Club have joined up to promote a new autocross championship for 2012.
Until this year, the Border Autocross Championship has run on the back of the North East Championship with most of the rounds run from Causey Park near Morpeth, with the exception of the rounds at Kelso and East Ord.
This year, the Border Autocross Championship will be based in North Northumberland and the Borders area.
The decision by the two clubs was taken because of the increasing success of local drivers, who have dominated the entry list and the results over the last few years.
The feedback from the drivers also played its part with a new challenge being required and more local events at different venues.
The new championship kicks off on Sunday at Lucker Farm, south of Belford, just off the A1.
The championship has attracted all the top drivers from the past few years, headed by champion for the last three years Branxton’s John Straughan and former champion Mathew Leitch from Norham.
If past seasons are anything to go by the action is not to be missed.
