THE first triathlon in the 2012 Borders Sport and Leisure Trust series took place at Galashiels Swimming Pool on Sunday.
The gruelling challenge, which featured a 750m swim, 19.14km cycle and 4.66km run, and the Come and Tri taster with a 400m swim, 10.88 km cycle and 2.33km run, attracted 175 athletes.
Brown Ferguson, development manager for Triathlon Scotland, the national governing body for triathlon, said: “The events in the Borders area have been getting bigger and better over the last few years and add great value to the calendar. There are increasing opportunities and local groups and clubs are ensuring people from all ages and backgrounds have an opportunity to take part.”

The series will continue with events in Selkirk, (May 6), Peebles (June 10), Hawick (July 1), Kelso (August 12) and Eyemouth (September 23).
