THERE’s a feast in store for music lovers next week with not one, but two, major productions to bring the 2012 amateur operatic season to a climactic conclusion, writes Andrew Keddie.
In Innerleithen, the hills are not the only thing that will be alive and an animated and appreciative audience is expected for the classic musical The Sound of Music which begins on Monday and runs until Saturday, March 31 (when a 2.30pm matinee will also be performed).
Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.30pm nightly, are on sale now from Graham McGrath, Eastgate, Peebles until tomorrow and in the Tweeddale Thrift Shop, Innerleithen until March 30. To book in advance, call 0845 224 1908 or email tickets@idaos.org.uk
Over in Melrose, the town’s amateur operatic society has opted from the old warhorse HMS Pinafore, the operetta which firmly established the reputation of Gilbert & Sullivan.
With familiar songs, this timeless tale of class conventions is in the capable hand’s of last year’s production team: producer Colin Smith, musical director James Young and rehearsal accompanist Alison Kaye.
It will be performed from Monday to Saturday, March 26-31, in the Corn Exchange, starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets (£10 adults, £7.50 concessions) can be obtained from members of the society or from Cullen Kilshaw, Market Square, Melrose. There will be a special buy-one-get-one-free ticket deal for Monday’s performance.
