Three local projects are being recommended for approval by Scottish Borders Council for funding from a pot of £76,638.20 made available by the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).
Lauder Golf Club has submitted a grant request for £30,745 to refurbish and extend its existing pavillion building which was built in 1912, while Hawick’s Golf Club has applied for £28,278 to create a drainage system to reduce flooding on the golf course and walking route popular during the town’s walking festival.
Morebattle Village Hall, which dates to 1850, was also the subject of a grant request for £10,497 to adapt its roof to prevent snow collection. The weight of the snow causes severe strain on the flat roof, causing leaks, damage and possible danger to the volunteers who have to clear it.
The three applications awaiting a final decision total £69,520, leaving an underspend of £7,118.20 for other Borders projects.
Last year Melrose Football Club, Bowden Pant Well, Hawick Well, Selkirk Parish Church, Fatlips Castle and bowling clubs in Earlston and Innerleithen all benefitted from LCF funding, in improvements totalling £96,398.50.
