MORE than 130 swimmers from all over the Borders attended the Hawick Amateur Swimming Club Graded Challenge at Teviotdale Leisure Centre (TLC).
A huge number of spectators were kept entertained with some spectacular swimming in the second staging of the annual event.
As was a graded event the swimmers were in different grades and it was possible to swim such a good time that it was too fast for that grade – these swimmers were awarded ‘too fast’ medals. The top six swimmers in each event helped their teams to accumulate points.
Almost all the medal winners swam personal bests to win their medals and there were a magnificent 94 pbs from 129 swims for the Hawick team of 54 swimmers.
They won with a total of 648 with Gala in second place with 228 points and Teviotdale in third with 172.
Hawick retained the Challenge Cup, which was donated by Hamish Smith and presented by Raymond Wood of the Summer Festival Committee, who also presented all the medals.
Organisers wish to thank Mr Wood, the Hawick Swimming Club committee and all who made the event so successful.
