IT will be third time lucky for Hawick Music Live! as they welcome the Thistle Brass concert next Sunday afternoon.

Having had to cancel their last two performances – most recently in December because of bad weather - the young ensemble will hope the Heart of Hawick can be added to the lists of venues they have played in, which includes the Gleneagles Hotel for the G8 summit and the British Embassy in China.

The quintet, pictured, top of page, comprises Al Douglas, and Brian McGinley (both trumpet), Tim Hunter (French horn), Arlene Macfarlane (trombone) and Matthew Chinn (tuba).

They will play music by William Byrd, dances from the Scottish Court arranged by John Maxwell Geddes, and a suite from West Side Story. Other pieces include Fire Dance by DiLorenzo, My Sister Kate by Fats Waller and Irvine Berlin’s Puttin’ on the Ritz.

Gordon Macdonald of Hawick Music Live! said: “The group have an extremely expansive and diverse repertoire, and are equally at home performing classical to jazz, from serious to lunatic, whether performing new commissions from composers of today, or loosening ties in a selection of distinctive lighter repertoire.”

The show begins at 2.30pm and tickets (£10/£2 students) can be bought from.thebooth.co.uk, at the box office in the Heart of Hawick, or on the day.
