ABBOTSFORD
THE last of the second-round ties in the Handicap Singles took place last week, with Brian Anderson outplaying Kenny Johnstone in the first tie.
The second game between Tom Boyd and Ecky Hancock saw the former storm into an early lead, with Hancock just clinging on to his coat tails.
With Boyd three shots up at the second last end, and lying shot, young Hancock, with his last bowl, took out Boyd’s shot bowl to lie three shots.
Boyd played his last, but went through the head to make the score level at the last end. Hancock’s first bowl was within three inches of the jack, and despite Boyd’s best efforts, was enough to win the tie.
The singles semi-finals and final took place last night with the pairs tournament starting today.
The Friday night friendly game saw Abbotsford taking on Stevie’s Sharks. Abbotsford won both the rink games, and in the pairs competition final afterwards, V. Graham and B. Anderson beat J. Hunter and D. Whitehead.
The popular quiz night takes place on starting at 7.30pm, with entries taken on the night – all friends and family are welcome.
TWEEDBANK
THE seniors were in action in the Jock Brodie Competition at Meadowmill, with both the A and B teams facing Midlothian and Falkirk respectively.
The B side were behind against Falkirk from the off, and although one rink performed quite well, it was a full 10 points to the central belt men.
The match for the A team was a very different story. Overall, the shot difference was in Tweedbank’s favour and while the single earned on the last end was not enough for a win, Tweedbank picked up eight points with the remaining two going to Midlothian.
The A team will face Perth in their next round-robin match this Wednesday. Another good result will put them well on the way to a semi-final place.
Last Thursday, the seniors travelled to Falkirk to meet Midlothian in the quarter-final of the Top 6 competition.
The singles category went to Midlothian and in the pairs Tweedbank had a good win, putting both teams level on points.
The decisive triples category was close, and with one end left to play the two teams were locked at nine shots apiece.
With the last bowl of the game, Midlothian managed to snatch the shot to take the match 4-2.
The final Scottish Play Downs for the season will be the fours category for both ladies and gents this Saturday. The Tweedbank men will be at Bainfield, while the ladies travel to Portobello.
At club level, all Scottish competitions, including the seniors, are drawn and each round up to the finals have been arranged.
Members should check the dates and times of matches.
