NATIONAL LADIES SECOND DIVISION
A MUCH-CHANGED Borders line-up returned from Glasgow with a fine four-goal win.
With the visitors forced into several alterations, as a number of promising youngsters were at the district schools tournament, it was perhaps not surprising the home side were the first to settle.
That said, Borders were guilty of losing the ball too easily in the early exchanges and Accies made the most of their possession, calmly creating and taking their first real opportunity to score.
Fjordhus knew they really needed to get something from this game after a difficult first half to the season and regrouped well.
Playmaker Janet Jack moved into her more familiar central midfield role and it wasn’t long before a penalty corner was won, from which Claire Townsend scored after her own strike rebounded off the keeper back into her path.
The Borderers managed to go into the break in front when Jack found the goal from a training ground short corner routine.
After the restart, they defended well in a real team effort, none more so than the tireless Jackie Wilson.
As the second–half progressed the visitors put together some nice passing moves, and it was from such a passage of play that the all-important third goal came.
A cross from the right was worked goalward by strikers Laura McLean and Elena Lunn, before a save was coolly swept into the net by midfielder Siobhan Murphy.
At the back, Pippa Bell and Gemma Ross remained composed as they snuffed out any Accies attack and Alex McMinn looked assured in goal. In the closing stages, Lunn added a fourth for a very welcome Fjordhus win.
