Peebles Netball is celebrating the call-up of nine players to take part in the Under-17 European Championship matches in Glasgow next weekend.
Shooting ace Jo Pettitt had already made the cut for the 12-strong national squad and has been training hard for the last year to take on the best in Europe at the Kelvin Hall.
However, a mix-up over entry deadlines resulted in the Republic of Ireland failing to get its national team into the main championship, but still looking to test its team.
As a result, Netball Scotland put together a development squad to take on Ireland, including all eight Peebles players who are involved in the east pathway programme.
Those selected are Jenny Hudson, Hannah MacDonald, Hannah Crick, Lauren Tait, Flora Gillies, Neve McLean, Mhairi Jackson and Susanne Krabbendam.
The octet will play at the Gorbals Leisure Centre next Saturday, after which they will support 16-year-old Jo at the Kelvin Hall against Northern Ireland.
Peebles Netball coach Linda Nicholson said: “The eight development squad players who have been called up are a mix of 14 and 15-year-olds who are all hungry for selection for full Scotland caps at Under-17 level over the next year or so.
“This unexpected chance to play against the Republic of Ireland is an excellent opportunity to test themselves, and also let selectors see how they rise to the challenge of such top-class competition.
“We are also delighted that Jo has made the national squad for the second year in succession and wish her well next weekend.”
