LANGHOLM-based trainer James Ewart was in great form at Ayr Racecourse’s Valentine’s Day meeting with two winners and a second.
The Ewart double came courtesy of the impressive French import Un Guet Apens (5/1) in the Best Odds At BetVictor.com Novices Hurdle and Bishops Heir (9/2) in the Vanessa Riddell Appeal Novices’ Chase. Both horses were ridden by Brian Hughes.
Ewart had to make do with second spot when his Wilde Pastures (16/1) came home 31 lengths behind The Tracey Shuffle (30/100 fav) in the Watch Live Racing At BetVictor.com Maiden Hurdle.
Jim Goldie returned to winning ways saddling 14/1 chance Seven Is Lucky, ridden by Henry Brooke, to win the opening conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle and another Borders trainer Willie Amos landed the last, the national hunt flat race with Dante’s Frolic (11/1) in the hands of Callum Whillans.
The feature race of the afternoon, the Play Casino At BetVictor.com Handicap Chase went to Buffalo Bob (2/1 fav) – a somewhat lucky winner after Charingworth unseated his rider two out with the race at his mercy. Buffalo Bob’s success gave jockey Jason Maguire his 100th winner of the season.
Ayr next races on Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10. For more information call 01292 264179 or go online at www.ayr-racecourse.co.uk
