Bitter cold and sometimes wet and windy conditions met Braidwood’s competitors on Sunday as they battled it out for the chance to win the Braidwood Salver.

Amazingly, despite the inclement weather, a field of almost 50 turned out with a number of others just in to practice.

Perhaps his outdoor job with the Royal Mail helped Donald Livingston (Edinburgh) perform while others froze. He certainly read the wind-affected course best, landing himself the salver on 34 ex-40, just a single clay clear of Gordon Boertien (Lockerbie).

Ali Cumming (Galashiels) and Jock Allison (Hawick) shot the third best score of 32 on layout one.

Bobby Bruce (Broxburn) took the second layout outright, the winning score again 34. Boertien was runner-up once more, while Jim McPhillips (Bathgate), Lindsay Gordon (Prestonpans) and James McCreath (Dunbar) all shot their way into third slot on 31.

Boertien may not have secured a win over either course, but consistency was the key – two seconds gave him a total of 65 ex-80 and the day’s overall aggregate title, Livingston and Bruce closest, tying on 63.

The next event at Braidwood is the annual Christmas Shoot on Sunday, December 18.

As is customary, the Christmas event is pre-entry only. Only a limited number of places remain – to book phone 01835 870280 or email braidwoodsc@hotmail.co.uk.

The first event of 2012 is two weeks later on Monday, January 2 – the Roger Tyrer Trophy at stake.

Entries close at noon. All welcome.
