FJORDHUS REIVERS 6
GRANITE CITY WANDS 1
Womens National League
Division Two
Reivers ended their season in style with a 6-1 hammering of Granite City Wanderers.
The result means Reivers finish in fifth place in the table, a top-half finish which will stand the young players new to National League hockey in good stead for next season.
Laura McLean opened the scoring with a double inside the first 20 minutes.
On 23 minutes, a lovely run by Elena Lunn, and continued by Janet Jack, saw the ball reach Emily Newlands, whose reverse-stick shot flew past the diving keeper.
On the half-time whistle, after some great play by Cawthorn and Inglis down the right, Reivers won a penalty corner, which Pippa Bell pushed out, Newlands ran the dummy, Jack faked left and struck the ball right to score.
Twenty minutes into the second half, McLean, enjoying her best game of the season, laid off a perfect pass to Earlston teenager Lucy Inglis, who found the goal from the tightest of angles.
Wands struggled to gain any meaningful possession, but managed to score a consolation goal from a penalty.
But it was the Reivers who had the last word when Leai McKinnon used her pace to stop the ball going over the dead-ball line and set up McLean for her hat-trick.
Player/coach Jack said: “I am delighted with the day’s work and heartened that the squad will take these memories forward to next season.”
