Langholm 38

Dunbar 26

Langholm are on the verge of relegation, but they are certainly not going to go down without a fight, writes John Smith.

It was the perfect start for the hosts when the visitors were held on the line and from the resultant scrum possession, no9 Craig Hislop fed fly half Keith Davidson, who went on a mazy run for an unconverted try. Langholm increased the lead with a penalty from Colin Jardine.

Gregor Masterton was then held just short after a neat jink and from the resultant ruck, Davidson crashed over and Jardine added the extras. Langholm went down to 14 men when Alan Tyler was sin-binned and it proved costly as Dunbar cashed in with a try from flanker Graeme Fletcher, which Jamie Peters converted. Dunbar were fighting back and scrumhalf Blair Mills dummied his way over to score and Peters again converted to narrow the gap. Jardine was on target shortly after, however, to make the score 18-14 at the interval.

The Langholm pack immediately applied the pressure and the ball was quickly fed wide for an unconverted try from Daniel Nordon.

Once again, Dunbar fought back and Calum Champion scored from a quick tap penalty which Peters converted.

The home forwards surged at the line once more and Steven Nicol picked up at a scrum to go over for the bonus try. Jardine added a penalty to create a 10-point margin.

John Peebles secured a well-worked visitors try, but Langholm had the last say with a try from Alasdair Cavers and Niall Cubbon converted to wrap things up.

Langholm: C. Jardine; J. Pool, A. Cavers, G. Masterton, D. Nordon; K. Davidson, C. Hislop; M. Salaman, S. Devlin, C. Little, A. Tyler, S. Nicol, S. Howatson, J. Reid, S. Graham. Subs: J Ratcliffe, N Cubbon, S Jardine and S Kitching.
