Peebles Rovers 3
Craigroyston 1
EoS FIRST DIVISION
PROVING that last weeks’s result against Hawick was no fluke, Peebles came up trumps again on Saturday when putting an end to Craigie’s recent winning run.
Playing the first game on their home ground at Whitestone Park since October, the Borders outfit opened the scoring on the quarter-hour mark when Nicky Cairns found space in the Craigie area, and his cut-back was met by the unmarked Jamie Adamson, who shot past Stuart Burnside in the visitor’s goal.
The pitch may have been deemed playable following recent drainage work, but the sticky conditions didn’t help either side’s attempt to play passing football and goal chances were scarce, and the home side still led by one at the interval.
Craigie came out fired up at the start of the second half, and were soon level when Stevie Moncur headed in a Mark Hendrie cross.
John Dunn then saw a shot cleared from almost on the goalline as the visitors looked to push on for all three points.
Peebles raged on regardless, however, and edged themselves in front again when a long clearance wasn’t dealt with and the ball found its way to Craig Edgar who fired past Burnside.
Once again, the visitors pushed for an equaliser and once again they were punished by Edgar, who ran clear from halfway to score his second and put a dent in Craigie’s hopes of promotion.
