Coldstream Amateurs 2
Hawick United 1
BAL DIVISION B
ONE side was battling for promotion and championship honours, the other to avoid relegation.
It was the latter, however, who gained the honours, in what was the surprise result of the day on the Border Amateur scene.
United had a golden chance to open the scoring with just seconds of the game gone on being awarded a penalty after Ross Scott had been brought down. There was to be no goal for the Hawick outfit, though, as David Strathdee’s spot kick was well saved by the Coldstream keeper.
United made the running after this but it was Coldstream who did the scoring by netting not only once but twice through well taken goals by Darren Simpson.
On the stroke of half time, Scott reduced the leeway in drilling home a Kevin Strathdee cross.
In the second half, United dominated the play, but could not break down a resolute Coldsteam defence.
United had further misery, in having goalkeeper Dean Fry red-carded for upending a Coldstream attacker.
