JEDBURGH Badminton Club have had a busy time of it over the last few weeks. First up was the seedless tournament played in a knock-out format. The final, Scott McNeil and Myra Younger against Richard Davidson and Linsey Evans, was a closely fought affair. McNeil and Younger eventually won 21-18, 19-21, 21-17.
The veterans’ tournament was next and eight teams played in two groups in a round robin format, the winners of each group meeting in the final.
Paul Bishop and Carolyn Higginson were the eventual winners beating John Peters and Rebecca Waldie, who stood in for Ann Wild who was injured in the first game. 21-19, 13-21, 21-19.
For the first time in memory, the singles tournaments at the club were held on a Sunday afternoon. The four ladies who entered played a round robin format with the top two playing each other again in the final. Christine Wylie beat Tracey Kirkpatrick 21-12, 21-10.
The gents’ tournament had 17 entrants playing a knock-out format, the first round losers then went on to play in the plate tournament.
Paul Bishop beat Stu McCredie 21-7, 21-8 in the gents’ singles final, while in the plate final Charlie Allison overcame Rob Armstrong 21-15, 21-13.
