Murrayfield Wands Ladies 13
Melrose Ladies 32
RBS Women’s Premier League
MELROSE threw off their long winter break rustiness in fine style as they recorded a first win over the current champions in their own backyard – a victory made even more remarkable considering they had only 14 available players.
Despite the lineout stuttering a bit, the visitors held their own in other phases, allowing their backs to cause serious damage to the Wanderers’ defence.
Overall, it was a victory for teamwork and spirit, making it difficult to single out individuals, but mention must go to great efforts from Chloe Rollie in her first game at 10, Natasha Rivera after a long illness lay-off and Gillian Inglis for her stunning 90-metre try.
Melrose scorers: Lauren Harris (3), Inglis and Nicola Halfpenny. Lana Skeldon converted two and added a penalty.
