PITREAVIE GIFT, Scotland’s most prestigious open-to-all athletics event is to set to return to the superb all-weather track at Pitreavie Athletics Centre in Dunfermline on Sunday, January 27.

Organisers are reminding athletes to enter before the closing date of Sunday, January 6 – to avoid missing out. Entries from youngsters aged between 9 and 15 years are particularly welcome.

First held in January 2012, Pitreavie Gift promises a sparkling day of exciting outdoor running in a winter family festival encompassing all ages and abilities. Devised by Don Campbell, Scotland’s foremost handicapper, it is based on the iconic Stawell Gift in Australia, a 100-year-old running extravaganza with strong Scottish connections that attracts top international talent.

The unique handicapped format allows men, women, boys and girls of all ages and abilities to compete on an equal basis. It is hoped over 300 runners from 9 to 70 years will make the trip.

Borders-based Chairman, Ron Sutherland said: “Preparations are well in hand, and we’ve had a very encouraging response from runners across Scotland, the North of England and beyond.

“Darren Scott of TLJT took the spoils in fine style at the inaugural Gift, and strong Borders representation is again anticipated.”

The heat draw for the main 100m Gift Sprint will be held on Monday, 14 January @ 7pm in Pitreavie Athletics Centre, and is open to the public.
