HAWICK coach Phil Leck will take charge of the Scotland club international side in 2013.
The Lancastrian was announced as the new head coach in a raft of national appointments by the Scottish Rugby Union, including Melrose’s John Dalziel being made Scotland under-20s assistant coach and former Hawick player Roddy Deans taking on the same role with the under-16 squad.
Leck was invited to apply for the job and says it is a big honour to be selected.
He said: “It won’t affect my work at Hawick at all. I wouldn’t have considered applying if it would interfere with my job here.”
Leck will be in charge of two games – against the Irish counterparts at Ayr and away to a France club select.
And the Burnley man, whose Hawick team sit third in the National League, says he will consider players from all divisions.
He added: “It’s going to be mainly Premiership players, but there are opportunities for other lads at different levels.
“We’re looking to get a good squad together and that could include one or two of the top players in the National League.”
Dalziel will assist Sean Lineen with the under-20s squad, who face Italy on February 8 and Ireland on February 22 at Netherdale.
