RBS RESERVE LEAGUE NATIONAL TWO

DESPITE not having played a league match in almost two months, Gala A maintained their 100 per cent record with a hard-fought win.

The seconds squad were hoping to replicate the performance of the first XV who had defeated Moseley in the British and Irish Cup on the same pitch immediately beforehand, and got off to a good start when Craig Dods knocked over a penalty.

However, a strong Hamilton side soon replied with a well-taken converted try.

Both teams exchanged penalties before Gala claimed a half-time lead when a well-worked line-out move resulted in hooker Lewis Roden scampering over for his seventh try of the season, converted by Dods.

The start of the second half saw Hamilton level the scores at 13-all thanks to a successful penalty.

However, a turnover resulted in Gala moving the ball quickly for Gregor Mein to touch down in the corner.

Yet, the teenage stand-off was soon replaced after suffering a bad head knock, while Fraser Welsh was stretchered off and taken away by ambulance after suffering a back injury.

Despite the injuries, Gala withheld severe Hamilton pressure in the final 10 minutes to reclaim top spot in the league above Hillhead/Jordanhill.
