HAWICK fighters Dean Scott and Jordan Caldwell will be showing little festive spirit when they square up against each other at Friday night’s Santa Slam event, to be held at the town’s ‘old baths’ just off Commercial Road.
Scott, 32, fought when he was a teenager and boxed twice in the Stable Lads Championships in 2001 when he worked for trainer Ian Semple.
He said: “I lost in the finals at the Hilton Hotel in London and I’ve never fought since, but I’ve always trained to keep in shape and I’ve always missed boxing.”
While Dean may have experience, his opponent, Caldwell, is a complete novice and only took up the sport six months ago.
The 19-year-old, who has been sparring with Scott for the last two months, said: “I’m as confident as I can be going up against Dean and I’m hoping not to be on the ground too much.”
Other local fighters taking part in the semi-professional boxing show are Russell Walker, Scott Grant and Darren Johnstone.
They face top fighters from around the country, including current British professional Welterweight MMA champion Andy Plimmer as well as ex-professional MMA world title contender Jordan Desborough of top gym SBG Mainline in Manchester.
