GALA HARRIERS’ were well represented in the senior section at Livingston for the second of three rounds in the East District Cross Country League.
The trio of Fiona Dalgleish, Rachel Fagan and Fiona Shepherd took on a field of 110 runners in the womens’ race. In-form Dalgleish romped home in 23rd place in a frisky 27 minutes 9 seconds, with Fagan following her in 27.56 and Shepherd in 30.20. This ensured that the team holds on to a well-deserved 7th place overall going into the final round.
In the senior women’s race Scout Adkin (Moorfoot), who had missed the previous week’s Scottish Students Championship with a minor calf strain, showed no signs of any hindrance to finish a commendable 10th overall and 1st U-20.
Two hundred and 27 men took on the increasingly muddy route with seven Harriers slithering over the finishing line, and, not to be outdone by the women claimed 7th place overall too. This was due to several top 100 placings by Fergus Johnston (30th in 36.14), Wayne McIntosh (36th in 36.51), Mark Bryson (56th in 37.39), Colin McCall (81st in 38.55), and Steve Martin (86th in 39.26), as well as contributions by Derrick Brydon (42.44) and Alastair Laurie (45.11). The male veterans team currently lies in 12th place.
