SOUTH Under-16 girls’ hockey squad had a tough but rewarding weekend when they travelled to take part in the annual inter-district tournament at Peffermill Hockey Centre.
The team was captained by Morven Cawthorn (Selkirk HS), while Kirsty Millar (Berwickshire HS) and Lucy Inglis (Earlston HS) jointly took on the vice-captain’s role, and, under their leadership, the girls pulled together to produce some superb performances.
They started off slowly against North to hold on to a 0-0 draw before putting on an excellent performance against South West.
They gave the South girls a great match.
The Borderers were 2-0 up by the start of the second half, but South West fought back against the young South squad to draw 2-2.
The last game on Saturday was against West (eventual winners), and South were unlucky to lose 3-1.
On Sunday, the girls were up against East and then Midlands. The girls’ effort, spirit and teamwork throughout each of the games was second to none and resulted in two outstanding performances to draw 0-0 and 2-2 respectively.
The girls wish to thank all those who went to support them throughout the weekend.
