WITH the 50th Anniversary of the Border Rugby Referees Society (BRRS) just around the corner the group are looking to recruit some new whistlers to help maintain the high standard of officiating in and around the region.
The first of several courses planned for over the next couple of months takes place on Sunday and will run from 10am-4pm at Kelso Rugby Club.
The course covers the main areas of the laws of the game and also how to referee these and the qualification gained will allow the recipient to referee games for their own school/club at Under 16 level.
BRRS have a group of experienced referee coaches who would go with them to their first few games to ensure they were supported and coached to improve.
The course is also a very good way of understanding the Laws of the game better and how the laws are applied by referees. Referee Development Officer Iain Heard commented: “Having run many courses over the last five years I have had a number of people tell me that they would have been better players if they had learned the laws a bit better. It would be good to see some current players and coaches attending the new courses.”
