KELSO archers Leigh Christie and Michael Murray have been selected to start winter training as part of the Scottish archery squad and have been invited to take part in the selection shoot-off for places to represent Scotland at the British Indoor Championships.

The squad trains in Kilmarnock and costs have to be covered by the archers themselves.

Leigh and Michael are members of the Hawick-based Border Bowmen who enjoyed team success recently when taking part in a combined FITA competition hosted by Lasswade Archery Club.

The event saw 60 arrows shot at a 60cm target from 25m then another 60 arrows at a 40cm target from 18m.

Leigh came second in the ladies’ recurve with 532 then 509 for a score of 1,041. In the gents’ recurve, Roy Murray had 502 and 502 for 1,004 while Michael Murray shot 517 and 513 to score 1,030.

Border Bowmen also won the team trophy with a combined score of 3,075.

Last week Michael Murray came third at the Bannockburn Worcester tournament with a score of 276 out of 300.
