Selkirk 30

RBS NATIONAL LEAGUE
AN INJURY sustained by exchange referee David Proctor saw Saturday’s match at Philiphaugh abandoned early in the second half.
The contest had reached the 49th minute when Selkirk wing Callum McColm raced over for a try in the corner (his side’s fourth) to put the homesters’ 30-0 ahead.
It was at this point that referee Proctor twisted his left foot and fell to the ground. Club doctor Jeff Cullen and paramedic Mike Craig were quickly on the scene, but so severe was the injury that the match official was unable to continue.
There followed a series of animated discussions on the touchlines between Selkirk and Biggar officials, and assistant referees Mossez Wright and Andrew Laing, but with no suitably qualified referee on hand to oversee the remainder of the match, the only option was to abandon the game.
A report on the encounter will be sent to the SRU’s championship committee for a decision on what should happen next, but as the game was abandoned before 60 minutes had been played, it looks likely that the fixture will have to be replayed, possibly on November 24.
“It’s very frustrating,” Selkirk coach Brian Cassidy said after the match. “Our boys had been playing so well up until then. But these things happen, and there’s nothing you can do about it. The most important thing is that the referee makes a speedy recovery and we wish him well.”
For the record, Selkirk’s tries were scored by Callum McColm (2), Scott Hendrie and Angus Duckett. Michael McVie added two penalties and two conversions.
