FIFTEEN members of Hawick Amateur Swimming Club took part in the Borders Freestyle Championships at Galashiels.
The boys swam first, with impressive pbs from Mark Messer, Liam Caldwell, Lyall Hodgins and Gavin Mitchell; while Jack Wilson, Ruaridh McCall and Jamie Grant performed very close to their best.
Jack qualified for the consolation final, with Mark first reserve, and the former won this event with an improved time from his heat swim. For the girls, Erin Middlemass, Rhiann Ferguson, Jenna Amos and Chloe Scott recorded pbs, and Katie McCall swam a good new time. Abbie Jeffrey, Lisa Murphy and Rachel Shiel came close to their personal bests.
The boys’ relay entry of Mark, Ruaridh, Liam and Jack clinched silver, behind Eyemouth, while Abbie, Rhiann, Jenna and Erin competed well against tough opposition in the girls’ relay.
