THERE’S no let-up for Borders orienteers as the autumn season progresses with important races almost every weekend.
Carlisle hosted the latest round of the UK Urban League and there were satisfying wins for Kirstin Maxwell (women’s open) and Karen Maxwell (W18). Ian Maxwell also ran well to finish third in the M50 category.
The day after the Carlisle race, Roxburgh Reivers welcomed more than 760 competitors to Teviothead for the final of the UK Club Championships.
Despite horrendous weather for most of day, the runners appeared to enjoy the challenge and those who stayed for the prizegiving were finally treated to blue skies and lovely Borders autumn colours.
The action moved to Livingston last Saturday for round five of the Scottish Urban League – and all five Reivers who attended were rewarded with podium places. There were victories for Ian Maxwell (M50), Lindsey Knox (W50) and Karen Maxwell (W18), while Eileen Maxwell and Fiona Forrest took the runners-up spots in the W45 and women’s open respectively. The final round takes place in Dunblane in two weeks’ time.
Kirstin Maxwell was part of a group of three Scots participating in the Junior European Championships in Switzerland last weekend, providing them with an opportunity for high-quality competition against the continent’s best juniors.
