Fjordhus Reivers Men 4

Dunfermline City 1

FRIENDLY

IT WAS a new-look Fjordhus Reivers that took to the pitch at Tweedbank on Saturday.

Missing a few of the old regulars, new captain Jonathan Fletcher was looking for an encouraging performance before the new league season starts.

It was always going to take a while for the men to settle into a flowing style, but, as the game progressed, the speed of movement improved and the chances came as Reivers started to dominate.

It fell to youngster Callum Stockdale to open the scoring, a slap hit from close quarters to finish the half ahead of a struggling City side.

After making a few changes to the set-up, Reivers continued to pressure their opponents with quick open play and after a sweeping move down the right, from Jordan Bure, the ball was met by Stockdale again, who was able to slip it to Craig Darling to lift into an empty net. At 2-0 the Reivers started to relax, but a drop in concentration allowed Dunfermline to get one back.

At this stage the game started to open up and spaces began to appear with Gareth Roberts getting on to a well-hit through ball from Colin Stockdale, beating the last defender and producing a rocket from the edge of the D past the flailing keeper.

The game might have ended 3-1 but for a last-minute penalty corner with Roberts and Stockdale combining again to seal the victory at 4-1.

Captain Fletcher was pleased with the result, and the way the new-look outfit worked hard.

The younger players combined well to produce some good hockey, especially from debutant Ben Culham, who played in several positions.

Reivers: S. Young, B. Montgomery, S. Girvan, P. Conkie, S. Conkie, J. Fletcher, G. Lofthouse, C. Stockdale Snr, C. Stockdale Jnr, J. Bure. G. Roberts, C. Darling, P. Gibson, J. Lamb, B. Culham.
