A BUSY road in the centre of Hawick is to be closed for 10 hours on four nights next week to allow resurfacing work to take place.
Repairs costing £10,000 will be carried out on the A7 along Commercial Road from 9pm until 7am the following day, starting on Monday and ending on Friday morning.
The work is being overseen by BEAR Scotland on behalf of Holyrood’s Transport Scotland.
A spokesman for BEAR said that, to allow the works to be carried out safely, it was essential for Commercial Road to be closed and that diversions would be put in place.
He warned there would be what he described as minor disruption to road users.
Ian Stewart of BEAR stressed: “These works are being carried out at night to minimise delays to the travelling public.
“Some delays are expected and we advise motorists to plan their journeys ahead. We would like to thank the local community for their patience while works take place.
“We will make every effort to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.”
Northbound traffic will be diverted via Albert Road, Wilton Path and Princess Street. Southbound traffic will be routed by Mart Street, High Street and the Sandbed roundabout.
Operations that will generate the most noise will be restricted to between 9pm and 1am to minimise disturbance.
The project is being carried out by Aggregate Industries on behalf of BEAR Scotland. Works have been planned in consultation with Lothian and Borders Police and Scottish Borders Council.
If the job is delayed by weather it will re-commence the following Monday.
