Scottish Borders Council (SBC) wants people to apply to become external members of its audit committee.
The committee reviews and scrutinises the council’s framework of corporate governance, risk management systems and associated internal control environment – and makes reports and recommendations.
It has seven members – five councillors and two non-voting members from outside the council.
Committee chairwoman Councillor Michelle Ballantyne said: “We’re looking for someone who is inquiring and independent-minded. Ideally they will be able to assist the work of the committee by personal knowledge and experience relating to the financial and operational management and internal control of large organisations.”
The duties of the external member will include attending four meetings a year plus mandatory training and development events. The appointment will be until October 31, 2015. The work is unpaid, though travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed.
Anyone who wants to be considered or would like to nominate a candidate should set out the relevant skills, experience and personal qualities and send them to Jill Stacey, head of audit and risk , council headquarters, Newtown St Boswells, TD6 0SA or email jstacey@scotborders.gov.uk.
There will be a formal selection process once all applications and nominees have been received.
The closing date for applications is September 28.
