A woman whose job involves recording individuals’ life stories is starting her own exciting new chapter.
Anne Reid from SpeakingLives is to become the new owner of the business, having achieved fantastic initial success as a licensee.
The news comes following a challenging year, which saw Anne defeat breast cancer as she determined to build her business, while undergoing treatment. SpeakingLives, a sponsor of this year’s Borders Book Festival, is a gift service which records and edits individuals’ Life Stories, to be produced on an audio CD (or mp3 format) for families to treasure for generations.
Anne’s sympathetic interview style, which has seen her dubbed “the story lady” by clients, has proven a hit, helping the business grow throughout Scotland.
Originally a registered licensee, Anne plans to buy out the business, with the aim of continuing its growth and success.
She has described the move as her own “happy ending” after a traumatic year, and is now looking forward to the future with hope.
Anne, trading as “SpeakingLives – Tell Your Story on CD”, is delighted at the development. She said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be the proud new owner of the SpeakingLives company.
“Since training as a Life Interview Consultant in 2009, I have continually said this is ‘the best job in the world’.
“Meeting so many people and hearing their life stories is absolutely fascinating, and the value the experience offers interviewees and their families is huge. It is incredibly rewarding to be part of that.
“One thing I have learned from my illness is that we never know what the future holds, and this has real resonance with the work I do. There is immense value in recording memories of childhood, teens, working or married life, special trips and events; even the story of organisations so that the oral history of families and communities is not lost.”
