Borders Fjordhus 2XI 2

Eskvale Ladies 1XI 2

EAST LADIES DIVISION ONE

A BRACE from Katie Francis secured a hard-earned draw for Borders in tough conditions at Tweedbank.

Taking on league leaders Eskvale, Fjordhus retained good possession early on despite sleet and freezing winds.

The visitors scored first with a great strike from the edge of the D by Anne Turner.

The home side replied with some good passing play from the midfield getting through to the forwards, who were unfortunate not to score.

Good clearing balls from Fjordhus defender Zoe Higgins made sure that Eskvale had to work hard to try to add to their lead.

But just before half-time they broke through the home defence and Shirley Gallacher scored off a rebound, despite robust keeping from Gwen Bradley.

After a team talk from coach Debra Martin, the second half started well.

The effort paid off as a quick free hit from Nicola Wealleans was touched in by Francis.

Evonne Jack played well, but a fractured rib from last week caused her to leave the field injured.

Borders worked phenomenally hard and got their rewards when a good run up the right allowed Ashley Robson to draw the keeper and pass the ball to Francis who levelled the match.

It was a tremendous effort from the whole team against credible opposition.

Borders Fjordhus II: G. Bradley, L. McColm, K. Sharky, A. Robson, M. Riddell, K. Francis, D. Martin, E. Jack, Z. Higgins, F. Hamilton, S. Robson, A. Knox, N. Wealleans.
