The theft of tools with an estimated value of £50,000 from a bus depot in Jedburgh will not impact on services delivered under contract to Scottish Borders Council, writes Andrew Keddie.
A council spokesperson said today (Tuesday) that that assurance had been issued by Munro’s of Jedburgh which operates serveral school and passenger services for the local authority.
Earlier today, the police issued an appeal for witnesses following a break-in at the company’s Oakvale Garage at Bongate between 11.30pm on Sunday and 4.45am on Monday.
It is alleged that three large mechanic toolboxes, the contents of which are said to be valued at about £50,000, were stolen.
A police spokesperson said he was unable to clarify the types of tools taken, but revealed that the haul had, in addition, included a quantity of parts, including brake discs, alternators, starters and tyres,
“Anyone who was in the area of the garage and surrounding area and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact us,” said the spokesperson.
The break-in comes less than three weeks after the same premises were raided and a safe, containing around £3,000, was stolen overnight between May 23 and 24.
That incident is still under investigation by local CID officers.
