WE’RE not short on quantity of racing this Wednesday though the more quantitative quality is just around the corner.
But Royal Ascot is next week and until then there are still some interesting races and runners for us to sink our teeth into.
Yarmouth 3:40
Over at Yarmouth there is a good looking six furlong handicap which takes on a bit of prestige having been won by Deacon Blue back in 2010 and my idea of a winner this time around is HEZMAH. It looks widely a bunch of exposed and has been horses and Hezmah after a promising re-appearance still looks a horse that could improve especially now she is a year older. Last time out she ended up with too much to do from rear as the winner was able to get a soft enough lead and go end to end in a small field and she was only just denied in the end right at the line and for a stronger pace I’m sure she would have won. This was her first run back since August when she was second to the classy filly Blanche Dubawi and if she can take a step forward from her seasonal re-appearance and bring that form to the table she will have a big chance.
Hamilton 6.50
Hopes N Dreams annihilated a handicap here last week and was very impressive in doing so appreciating the return to six furlongs and the track where she has now twice been a run away winner and there is every chance she will continue her progress here. The runner I would take a chance on though is JARROW. He ran in a hot handicap last time he was seen at Newmarket and was running a big race still going well inside the final two but just got enough of a bump and shove to be knocked off balance crucially and never quite recovered. He was still only beaten four and threequarters and this looks like a much easier contest than the Newmarket handicap. He had previously been very impressive in a handicap at Wolverhampton and only two lbs higher than that run he should have a big chance in this contest back to a track he has previously won at on his only visit.
Kempton 9.10
CHORAL put the disappointment of her Lingfield run behind her last time when returning to form in a fillies handicap at Leicester when narrowly denied by a short head. She hit the front inside the final furlong having come from last to first round the outside of the field as the winner had rode a quiet race always going well close to the pace under the stands rail and in the end she just was caught desperately late on at the finish line. She has yet to win on turf and the soft conditions that day won’t have quite helped her get home and she’ll be much more comfortable returning to the polly track and certainly Kempton where she recorded her last victory three races ago when a comfortable two length winner of a fillies handicap.
