GEORGE Graham JNR picked up two awards as Gala RFC celebrated their most successful season for decades.
The scrum half, son of Gala’s influential coach of the same name, received the Edwin Garrett player of the year and players’ player of the year titles.
The Edwin Garrett is given to whichever player has picked up most man-of-the-match nominations throughout the year, with the destination of the trophy undecided until the final game of the season. Most improved player went to Alan Emond, best young player was won by hooker Russell Anderson and Gala A player of the year was named as Kris Mein.
Coach Graham discussed the campaign during which the Maroons claimed the Scottish Cup and Border League, while captain Opeta Palepoi joined him for a question-and-answer session.
Lynda Stoddart, convenor of the event, said: “It was a great evening to conclude an enjoyable and successful season. The awards were handed out to the respective players who were all worthy winners, but in the true sense, every player who pulled on the Gala jersey this season did themselves and the club proud, and this was reflected in each player receiving their commemorative jersey.”
Achievements of Gala A, Gala Wanderers, Red Triangle and Gala YM were also acknowledged.
