Gala beat Watsonians by 92 runs

ESCA PRESIDENTS TROPHY

SECOND ROUND

A KNOCK of 79 by captain Stevie Halls put Gala into the quarter-finals after a great win at Myreside.

Taking on a team from East League Division One in this 40-over clash, the Borderers elected to bat first, with Halls and Graeme Ormiston adding 64 in 21 overs before Ormiston was trapped lbw by Yellowlees for 23.

This foundation allowed the Gala middle order to attack the bowling with Josh Irvine looking fluent in making 59 off just 47 balls, with Halls eventually breaking the shackles to blast 11 boundaries, as 94 runs were added in the final 10 overs.

In reply, Watsonians made a brisk start with the experienced Flannigan looking good before Dinesh Tharanga bowled the opener.

Yellowlees was trapped lbw for 32 by Ormiston and only Harris (19) and Wilkie (22) provided any further resistance as Watsonians were all out for 125. Ormiston was the leading Gala bowler with four for 23.

Gala now await the winner of the Marchmont versus Edinburgh South tie in the quarter-finals.
