AFTER recent wintry Braidwood events it was an absolute pleasure to compete bathed in the warmth of spring sunshine last Sunday.

Although the day started with frost, and a chilly north-easterly, that soon gave way to wall-to-wall blue skies, leaving those with big coats and wellington boots feeling ‘wabbit’.

The sporting calendar returned to its normal bi-weekly slot when members shot for the Ian Hume Shield. Bobby Bruce (Broxburn) made the best of Layout One scoring 37 ex-40, three targets clear of Jim Brodie (Denholm), Jim Watt (Whitekirk) and Stuart Dawson (Bedlington).

After a shoot off, Brodie was confirmed as the trophy winner.

The outcome of the second Layout was split with David Bertram (Earlston) and Midge Little (Clovenfords) both coming in on 35 ex 40.

This time Davy Craig (Edinburgh) had the next highest score of 43 while Brodie, Dawson, Donald Livingston (Edinburgh) and Tam Patterson (Galashiels) lay a further clay back on 33.

Calculation of overall scores revealed a tie for the aggregate title between Brodie and Dawson who both ended their day on 67 ex-80.

Bertram, Bruce and Livingston just missed out on sharing pole slot on the leaderboard by a single clay, all completing the shoot on 66.

The next sporting competition at Braidwood is on Sunday, June 3.

Donald Livingston defends the Cavers Quaich and Mikey Nairn, the Arch Patterson Junior challenge.

Entries close at noon. All welcome.
