Kelso United have blown hot and cold throughout the season.
Last Saturday, though, the Tweedsiders turned up the heat to the full in gaining a highly impressive win over Berwick Rangers Reserves at home.
This weekend, United hit the road to face Heriot Watt University in an East of Scotland League First Division encounter and Kelso manager Prof Blaikie hopes his side will be on fire again. He told TheSouthern: “I have a good squad of players but they have not been consistent enough and this has been a problem all season.
“Before the Berwick game, the guys were told this quite bluntly and this seemed to be a wakeup call as we played really well. We really proved that we can play a bit, which is something I have known all along.
“Heriot Watt are pushing for the title and promotion and are at home so there is no pressure on us on Saturday. We will be looking for a result, however.”
United have Derek Burnett back but Chris Black, Jamie Swailes and John McCutcheon are all missing.
Gala Fairydean continue their quest for promotion, taking on fellow candidates Preston Athletic at Netherdale. By the time this paper is printed they will have played Peebles Rovers at Whitestone Park and the result of Saturday’s clash is likely to have a massive say in the battle to see which club steps up into the Premier League.
Fairydean coach Garry Fraser said: “Preston will be coming looking for a win that could give them promotion. We are chasing promotion ourselves so we will be looking for a win as well. Everything is very tight but if we win the remainder of our games, we could go up and it’s all in our own hands.
“We have played Preston twice this season, they have beaten us and we have beaten them so anything could happen in this third game.”
Peebles Rovers travel to Edinburgh to meet Craigroyston at St Marks Park.
In the Premier League Selkirk entertain Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale at Yarrow Park.
Mathematically, bottom of the table Selkirk can still avoid relegation but in the cold light of day the Souters appear destined for the drop and First Division football next season.
However, with Lothian Thistle missing several key players this weekend, Selkirk will start this match as favourites and, as we all know from years gone by, the Yarrow Park outfit are in the habit of turning their season round right at the death.
Selkirk are without the suspended Jamie Gibson.
Vale of Leithen are also at home, hosting league leaders Spartans.
