Victory takes Selkirk to top of table

IN THE last match of the Lothian Shoulder to Shoulder league, Selkirk Rifle Club won the match against Pathhead by a decent margin to equal current leaders Balerno and Currie’s points total.

In this match, the home team’s top scorer was Keith Nixon with 196, while Pathhead’s top man was Niall Georgeson with 191. Selkirk won the matchplay encounter 6-2, and win the matchplay title.

Bill Vaughan’s performances over the season means he wins the highest average award with an average of 2.55. A shoot-off between Balerno and Currie and Selkirk will be arranged to decide the winner of Division 1.

In the Scottish Smallbore Rifle Association team leagues, Selkirk A are fourth in division one, and the B team are sitting a close second in division two. With two matches still to play, the B team are in with a shout of the title.

In the Lothian individual championships, Bill Vaughan has won the veterans’ title, Darren Brown has won the junior title and Rory Dempster the iInexpert B class title.

The Selkirk club has not faired so well in the Border League individual leagues this year, with only one winner from Selkirk in Eric Brown winning division one.

In the Scottish Smallbore Rifle Association individual medals, Eric Brown won the A class medal with 299 ex 300 while his son Darren completed the double by winning the B class medal and the junior medal.

In the club competitions, Robert Beale won the knockout cup defeating Kevin Edward in a close final. Robert also won the Tam Findlay plate in a club handicap competition.

Eric Brown wins the Jim Michael cup in the choose-your-own-handicap competition and Robert Murray wins the handicap cup for the first time.

The junior section had its last shoot of the winter season on Thursday where the lads shot for the junior championship. Darren Brown was first with 294 ex 300, second, Keir Ballantyne with 278 ex 300 and third, Rory Dempster with 271 ex 300.

This win gives Darren the treble with the Scottish, Lothian and Selkirk junior titles.
