Edinburgh City 4

Selkirk 2

EOS PREMIER DIVISION

IT’S been very much a case of one step forward and two back for Selkirk this season and that pattern continued on Saturday when the Souters paid a visit to Meadowbank.

City were 2-0 up by half time thanks to two accurate headers from Shaun Harrison and Jamie Bain respectively.

Things didn’t improve after the restart. An attempted clearance from the box only went as far as Edinburgh’s Ian McFarland who fired in from the edge.

Selkirk did try to get themselves into it. Jason Inglis shot one over the bar before Daryl Burdett blasted the ball past City keeper Andrew Stobie.

In an explosive finish to the game Selkirk’s Jamie Gibson was sent off for dissent closely followed by manager Mick McKinnon who also voiced his displeasure. Dougie Gair racked up another for the hosts before Inglis scored a consolation penalty for Selkirk after William Mercer was brought down in the box.

Selkirk: J. Dodds, L. Stephen, J. Boyne, J. Inglis, E. Pritchard, R. McManus, B. Holness, D. Burdett, J. Gibson, Trialist, W. Mercer. Subs: J. Watt, D. Battle, J. Higginbottom, R. Connelly.
