THE 2012 Scottish Orienteering League kicked off with a long trip to Oban last weekend for the Roxburgh Reivers.
John Tullie started off where he left it in 2011 by winning his class comfortably, and Robin Sloan also had a good start by winning the M60 class, despite now being an M65. Barry Veitch unexpectedly ran the long elite course, but finished a creditable 7th.
Last weekend was also the annual British University Championships hosted by Cambridge University and held in the Lake District. Local runners Douglas Tullie, Sarah Tullie and Kirsten Maxwell were part of the successful team from Edinburgh University who retained their title in a very convincing manner.
The next local event is at Elibank, near Walkerburn on Saturday, April 21. More details at www.roxburghreivers.org.uk
