KELSO High School’s Curling Team attended the Scottish Schools Finals at Murrayfield last weekend and came out top of their group before losing out to Perth Academy in the semi-finals on Sunday.

Run by the Royal Caledonian Curling Club the event was played on good ice with a big swing, making for interesting curling.

The competition consisted of 24 teams from all over Scotland, who had previously qualified from 52 teams overall.

The finals were played in four sections of six teams in each section and the Kelso team of Cameron Bryce (skip) Lorna Shaw, Neil Sutherland, Callum Potts, and Amy Bryce as alternate player, topped their section at the end of Saturday night’s session, having beaten Garnock Academy (11-8), Fortrose Academy (7-4), Forfar Academy (5-3), Hamilton Academy (7-3) and Beith High (7-3), played extremely well against some tough opposition.

On Sunday they met Perth, whose team included two of well-known Scottish curler David Smith’s family, and had a very close game with them. The Borders outfit initially led 4-0, but eventually lost out 7-5 – a very creditable effort.

The Border Ice Rink Coaches are extremely proud of their achievement, which was played out in a very sporting manner.

The competition was won by George Heriot’s School.
