The official opening of the £1 million 3G Arena Netherdale in Galashiels this Saturday has been cancelled for a second time.
The ceremony was previously postponed in November because the state-of-the-art sports surface was not ready for use.
But on this occasion, a number of guests who were due attend are unavailable, including Gregor Townsend, who is coaching the Scotland squad in Italy.
Graeme McMurdo, project manager for Scottish Borders Council, said: “Football league matches, local and international rugby matches and the upcoming local elections have resulted in the date being problematic for a number of the invited guests.
“The 3G Arena itself is now fully complete with both the full-size and five-a-side pitches open for business.
“Already 850 users per week – and rising – are using the facilities, and feedback on the 3G surface from both the football and rugby participants has been excellent. The hope is that a community event can be held in the summer to celebrate the success of the facility.”
