A PLEA has been made to the people of Galashiels to stand for the town’s community council.
And former town councillor Drew Tulley also believes candidates who reside in Galashiels are needed at the Scottish Borders Council elections on May 3.
Mr Tulley said: “It is vital we have a strong community council so we can take our councillors to task.
“The community council has done a reasonable job in difficult circumstances but it needs young and new blood.”
He added: “I think it is important that (Scottish Borders) councillors are from within the ward so they see and hear the issues. Some of the councillors don’t even know the street names.
“You rarely see [the town’s] four councillors at a community council meeting and you are lucky to get one at committees such as Gala in Bloom.”
