A LEADING council official has admitted he was initially puzzled by a diamond jubilee project involving two parks in the region.
Victoria Park in Innerleithen and Jedburgh’s Elliot Park will apply for Queen Elizabeth status to celebrate the monarch’s 60-year milestone.
However, SBC’s head of property and management, Andrew Drummond-Hunt, admitted: “There do not seem to be any advantages in terms of applying for grants or funding. It is different in England where funding is available.”
But Mr Drummond-Hunt added that if the parks received the royal status, the green spaces would be protected from future development.
